Ryota nasceu em Recife, filho de empresários, passou muitos poucos anos com seus pais, sendo praticamente criado por sua irmã mais velha, a quem ama e admira muito, apesar de sentir uma certa inferioridade, por não ter conquistado nem metade do que ela conseguira quando tinha a idade dele. Em busca de suas próprias conquistar, e ser reconhecido, se dedicando as artes marciais para isso, mais especificamente ao kendo no colégio, onde deseja participar do torneio nacional, mas antes tem que vencer o torneio distrital, competindo com sua senpai e rival, Touma Yoshida, que Ryota considera ser mais talentoso que ele, o deixando com ciúmes. Ryota vive com sua irmã, Haruka, num simples apartamento para duas pessoas, vivendo ao lado de sua amiga e colega de classe, Ayame.
Seus poderes despertaram recentemente, devido ao seu desejo de reconhecimento, mas também o mesmo desejo de ser o melhor pode acabar causando um instinto de luta descontrolado.
